5oz. AVDP .999 Copper Round in the Style of 1877 USA Indian Head Penny

5oz. AVDP .999 Copper Round in the Style of 1877 USA Indian Head Penny

Between 1859 and 1909, America produced the now-iconic "Indian Head" penny. Designed by James Barton Longacre, chief engraver at the Philadelphia Mint, the Indian Head design replaced the Flying Eagle, which was difficult to strike on the tough copper-nickel alloy. It marked the first time America's indigenous population was represented on coinage, with the head of Liberty bedecked in a Native American-style headdress. The reverse featured a shield wreath, with ONE CENT engraved in the centre.

This beautiful 5oz. AVDP copper round takes inspiration from the iconic American Indian Head penny. The obverse displays Liberty wearing a Native American headdress, the inscription "United States of America," and a date of 1877. This is considered an exceptionally rare date on Indian Head pennies, as it had a very low mintage. The reverse features the oak wreath and shield, but the inscription reads "FIVE OUNCES .999 FINE COPPER" instead of "ONE CENT." Struck from 99.9% pure copper, this is sure to be a fun and unique centrepiece for any copper bullion collection.
